Chapter 1 · 5 levels

SELECT basics

Read data out of a table: pick columns, compute new ones, rename them, and list unique values.

Start

Welcome to Harbor & Pine. Before anyone asks you for a dashboard, you need to be able to look at a table and pull out exactly the columns you want. Every query you will ever write, from a quick check to a 200-line retention model, starts with SELECT ... FROM ....

In this chapter you will explore the product catalog, compute a margin column, rename columns so a spreadsheet reader understands them, and list the unique values hiding in a column. The boss level is a catalog snapshot for the merchandising team.
